This book has been written by a craftsman who has spent a lifetime on jewellery repair work. It is based upon his wide experience.
The book covers the fundamental processes of soldering, casting: gilding, plating, cleaning and polishing and, in addition, it includes practical information on the repair of many types of jewellery such as brooches, rings, necklaces and pendants.
The ability to identify real, synthetic and imitation stones is also an essential qualification of the repairer. A complete chapter is devoted to this subject and it contains descriptions of the stones likely to be encountered, together with the necessary handling precautions.
As the jewellery repairer is very often called upon to undertake repairs to silverware, silver plate, Sheffield plate and also specialized minor repairs to articles such as spectacle frames, chapters are included dealing with each of these items.
Jewellery Repairing is a hardback book with a worn dust jacket, revealing a beautiful turquoise cloth-bound cover beneath, showing some age-related wear but still very presentable. Despite its age, the technical instructions and repair guidance remain highly relevant and useful.
