A great way to practice painting pearls.
Print on Fabriano Tiziano, Canson Mi-Teintes or other paper suitable for gouache.
We recommend Windsor & Newton gouache and da Vinci brushes. (others are available)
Tips:
- Pearls have lustre and shine - they show so many colours so don't be scared to get colourful - even if it's a white pearl!
- Use zinc white to mix the softer colours.
- For your highlights, you can use permanent white, white pencil or even acrylic marker pens! Do what feels best and brightest!
- Remember, your pearl is off the ground a lot more than cabochons or facets - make sure your shadow shows this.
- Not all pearl surfaces are the same! Conch and Melo have a flame-like, porcelain surface. Check out the real thing before you paint!
- Try not to spill your water pot, like I did!
More than anything, make it yours! Experiment, have fun and create something unique!
