Setting Up Shopify for the First Time This video covers the initial setup of your Shopify store. If you’ve already done some of this, have a quick look through the notes anyway - Shopify updates regularly, so it may jog your memory or highlight something that has changed. Before you start Be patient! Shopify can have a slight lag while it sets everything up for the first time. Give it a minute if something doesn’t appear immediately. Shopify plan: I’ve included notes on the different pricing plans and what they include. Mark the date in your calendar: Make a note of the date you set up your Shopify store. If you’re on the introductory £1/month for 3 months offer, your normal subscription charge will start after this period - so set yourself a calendar reminder. Don’t worry about getting everything perfect: Most of the settings we cover can be changed later. If you’re unsure, follow my suggestions for now. Download the Shop app: I recommend downloading the Shop app on your phone. Have a look at how other businesses list and display their products - it’s useful to experience Shopify from a customer’s point of view. PayPal: If you use PayPal, have your PayPal account/login details ready. If you don’t have or want PayPal, make sure you deactivate it as a payment option. Shopify Payments: If you’re setting this up for the first time, have the information Shopify may need to verify you/your business ready, including: Photo ID Proof of address, such as a recent utility bill or bank statement Business and bank account details Useful timestamps 1:21 — SettingsWhere to find and start working through your main Shopify settings. 3:35 — PaymentsSetting up Shopify Payments, PayPal and your payment information. Your domain Many of you will already own your domain, so you can simply connect it to Shopify. If you don’t have a domain yet, don’t worry - there will be a separate video covering where and how to buy one. Connecting your domain should be fairly straightforward, but if you get stuck, let me know and I’ll go through it with you.
